Pro-Active Patrol by Your Deputies Strikes Again...Silver Alert Citizen located Safe!

Scott County-On 5-14-2023 at approximately 8:00am in the morning, First Sergeant Johnney Coomer was on patrol in southern Scott County when he observed a citizen walking along the roadway, appearing to be confused or possibly lost.  After contacting the citizen, First Sergeant Coomer spoke briefly with him, which aided in his initial assessment of the citizen as confused and disoriented. A check of the citizen's status in the statewide IDACS/NCIC computer revealed he was entered as a "Silver Alert Citizen" by the Sellersburg Police Department the previous day, approximately 20 miles south of where First Sergeant Coomer made initial contact with him.  After verifying the man's status, First Sergeant Coomer ensured he was evaluated by medical personnel, requesting Scott County Emergency Medical Services respond to the scene, and subsequently returned to active patrol once the citizen was in safe hands.

NOTE:  A "Silver Alert" is declared when an elderly, developmentally, or cognitively-impaired person has gone missing and is determined to be at risk.
