Scott County Sheriff's Deputies involved in a Pursuit Resulting in the Arrest of an Offender for Multiple Charges including Damage to a County Police Vehicle

Scott County-On 2-7-2023 at approximately 8:42pm, Deputy Zack Brown observed a vehicle traveling on State Road 362 in Nabb at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle driver, later identified as Steven Ray Heath, 34, of Nabb, Indiana failed to stop and sped away as Deputy Brown activated his emergency lights and siren, attempting to perform a traffic stop for the excessive speed violation.  After pursuing the fleeing vehicle for several miles where Deputy Brown estimated the fleeing vehicle speed in excess of 120 miles per hour, Deputy Brown witnessed Steven Ray Heath exit the vehicle and run into a residence on South Robinson Road, just inside Clark County.  Heath shut the door after entering the home and exited upon Deputy Brown approaching the residence on foot.  Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Juliot arrived and assisted Deputy Brown in placing Heath under arrest for Resisting Law Enforcement and for reckless driving.  Heath became violent once placed under arrest, making verbal threats toward officers, and physically resisting as deputies attempted to place Heath in the patrol car.  Scott County Sheriff's Lieutenant Charlie Morgan arrived on the scene and assisted Deputies Brown and Joliot in controlling Heath, eventually securing him in the back of Lieutenant Morgan's K-9 patrol vehicle.  While secured within the vehicle, Heath damaged the K-9/prisoner transport cage by kicking it and pushing against the cage with the weight of his body, breaking the aluminum frame of the cage away from the K-9 portion of the insert. Lieutenant Morgan transported Heath to the Scott County Jail where he remains incarcerated.  Lieutenant Morgan inspected the damage to the K-9/prisoner transport cage as extensive, practically rendering the cage inoperable.  The cost to replace the cage is $2,999.95, and restitution will be requested through proper channels, demanding Heath pay for the damage he caused to the police vehicle equipment.  Heath was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Resisting Law Enforcement, Criminal Mischief, Intimidation to a Law Enforcement Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Reckless Driving.  Heath was also issued three (3) traffic citations, of which one was for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.
