4th annual "Shop with the Sheriff"...Scott County's Finest!

Scott County-On December 16th from 6-8pm, Scott County Sheriff's Deputies invaded the Walmart Supercenter in Scottsburg with children from across the county, focused on purchasing needed clothing and other articles to include special gifts in the spirit of Christmas. This year's event marks the 4th annual, started by Sheriff Goodin when he took office in 2019. Each year, the number of children and families supported has grown and when the final number of children served this year is in the books, a new record number served will undoubtedly be realized. The Centra Credit Union-Scottsburg Branch partnered this year with the Sheriff's Office by not only soliciting contributions from patrons, but they also tirelessly accompanied the children at the shopping event and subsequent dinner afterward, providing many hugs and care to the children. Additionally, Northside Christian Church in New Albany provided gift bags containing much-needed undergarments for every child.  Sheriff Goodin stated... "I rank this event as one of the most important of the year, where we can provide support and love to children and families who need a little help".  After shopping at the Walmart Supercenter in Scottsburg, which graciously supported this event once again, the children were transported to the Mid-America Science Park where they were treated to a meal and a stocking stuffed to the rim, provided by Santa and Mrs. Claus. A great time was had by all!

Sheriff Goodin advised the gracious support of the business community and citizens alike make this event happen...THANK YOU may seem cliché, but know it is heartfelt. Food for the meal was donated by the following businesses...Papa Johns, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonalds, Jimmy John's and Marco's Pizza. Other business associates who contributed financially were the Buchanan Funeral Home, Main Street Package Store, Farm Credit Services, Scott Memorial Hospital, the Scottsburg Lions Club, Austin Tri-Hawk Incorporated, Scott County Tire, ILPEA Incorporated, SAMTEC, Amick Appliance, Amick Investments, Burns Electric, Clark County REMC, GARTECH, Jackson County REMC, John Jones-Scottsburg, Kellwell, M&M Office Supply, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, #555, Scottsburg Pet center, Teamsters Local Union #89, St. Clair Veterinary Clinic, Aisin Drivetrain INC, Rose Acres, and Tobias Auction Service. Furthermore, numerous local citizens made direct monetary contributions to the cause as well, successfully pushing the total required funds for the event "over the goal line." Bus drivers who provided transportation for the children were Polly Higgins, Ronnie Samples, Junior Carver, Glenna Hardin, and Steve Moore. Finally, the school counselors who diligently worked on this project from the start were Allison Berry from Johnson Elementary, Candace Herald from Lexington Elementary, Melissa Everhart from Vienna-Finley Elementary, Nicole White from Austin Elementary, and Kandace Spaulding from Scottsburg Elementary.

On behalf of the Sheriff of Scott County and staff, have a blessed and safe Christmas and New Year...we remain ready to serve you, our community.
