Scott County Sheriff's Deputies participate in Joint Active Shooter Response Training hosted by Austin City Police

Scott County-On 8-25-2022, Scott County Sheriff's Deputies and Scottsburg City Police Officers, who are certified trainers through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, provided instruction to officers from the Austin Police Department, Scottsburg Police Department, Crothersville Police Department and deputies from the Sheriff's Office, focusing on the law enforcement response to an active shooter situation.  Austin Police Chief Shawn Hurt graciously offered the new elementary school recently opened in Austin as the site for the training, exposing officers to different challenges the most modern school structure in Scott County offers. At the end of the training event, officers were able to familiarize themselves with the new school while adding additional capability to their individual response strategies. Furthermore, local departments training together and sharing ideas is always beneficial to the betterment of all, with the safety and security of our school children as the primary objective.  Sheriff Goodin followed up with the following..."This is the third active shooter/school safety training deputies have been involved within the last 30 days...training equals effective response...training collectively equals relationship building and confident officers tactfully engaging a threat together. I want to thank Chief Hurt for this opportunity to bring officers together in this training event, preparing for something we all certainly hope never occurs".
