Scott County Sheriff's Deputies Actions Save Others

Scott County-On January 4th at approximately 2:30am, a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen car from Louisville, Kentucky was abruptly stopped near the intersection of SR362 and SR62 in Jefferson County, near the Scott County Line. Prior to Scott County Deputies becoming involved in the pursuit, the Jeffersonville Police Department radioed ahead requesting Scott County Deputies assistance, reporting the stolen vehicle recklessly travelled through Charlestown and New Washington at speeds at or exceeding 100 mph and was heading toward Scott County.  First Sergeant Johnney Coomer, Deputy Kacey Reschar, Deputy William Morris and Reserve Deputy Kyle West were able to deploy a tire deflation device near where Scott, Jefferson, and Clark County intersect, bringing the pursuit to a halt prior to the stolen vehicle entering Scott County.  After the stolen vehicle struck the deflation device, the driver attempted to again flee, turning the stolen vehicle into the path of another motorist not involved in the pursuit.  Moments later the stolen car, struck an Indiana State Police vehicle and the Scott County Sheriffs vehicle driven by Deputy West. Upon stopping, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured during the pursuit and subsequent arrest of the suspect. Damage to the state police vehicle and the Scott County Sheriff's vehicle was minor.

On January 5th, a commendation was received from the shift commander of the Jeffersonville Police Department, praising the action of the Scott County Deputies involved in this incident and further recognizing the professional partnership shared with the Scott County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Goodin stated "I consider it an honor to receive such praises from other agencies regarding the actions taken by our Deputies...I am also proud of the fact that agencies such as the Jeffersonville Police Department trust in our ability to provide professional support to them in their time of need. On behalf of the citizens of Scott County, thank you Deputies for what you do for all of us every day".
