Immediate Release:

Continuing the Progress in a Drug Free Scott County Leads to Nearly 43 Grams of Methamphetamine, Numerous Pills, Paraphernalia, Stolen Gun, U.S. Currency and Five People Arrested over the Weekend

"Sheriff Goodin again, congratulates the Deputies for their Continued Non-Stop Effort in Fighting Crime." He also Praised the Public for all the Tips saying, "Isn't it amazing what can happen when a community and the police work together."

Scott County-On February 20, 2021, Deputies John Smith and Zach Morris attempted to conduct a traffic stop in Austin.  The vehicle refused to stop resulting in a brief pursuit.  During the pursuit several items were thrown from the suspect vehicle.  After finally stopping while still in Austin an investigation led to the arrest of three people for multiple charges including drug charges. 

As deputies were safely securing all three people, First Sergeant John Hartman went to the locations where items had been thrown from the vehicle.  In doing so numerous items were recovered including three handguns, nearly 35 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, over 90 grams of suspected Marijuana, a large amount of narcotic pills and multiple drug paraphernalia items were located.  See pictures below. 

After completing the investigation the three suspects were arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail on the following charges. 

Justin Spicer, 32, of Austin was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement (vehicle), Possession of a Handgun Without a License, Dealing in Methamphetamine At Least 10 Grams, Dealing in a Schedule I, II or III Controlled Substance, Dealing In Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine At Least 28 Grams, Possession of a Schedule I, II, III, or IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Possession of Paraphernalia and Reckless Driving. 

Jarrod Mays, 27, of Jeffersonville, IN, was arrested for Dealing in Methamphetamine At Least 10 Grams, Dealing in a Schedule I, II or III Controlled Substance, Dealing in Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine At Least 28 Grams, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Handgun Without a License, Possession of Paraphernalia and Visiting a Common Nuisance. 

Dakota Putt, 32, of New Albany, IN, was arrested for Dealing in Methamphetamine At Least 10 Grams, Dealing in a Schedule I, II or III Controlled Substance, Dealing in Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine At Least 28 Grams, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Handgun Without a License, Possession of Paraphernalia and Visiting a Common Nuisance. 

          

                    

 

                                            

 

     

The Scott County Sheriff's Office was also assisted by the Austin police Department. 

 

On February 22, 2021, Corporal Johnney Coomer and Deputy Skylar Thompson attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the Blocher area.  The vehicle refused to stop resulting in a pursuit.  When the pursuit ended, passenger, Colton White, age 22, from Louisville Kentucky, bailed out of the vehicle and a foot pursuit began. 

Along with deputies, Scottsburg Police Department, Austin Police Department, Johnson Township Fire Department, and Scott County EMS responded to assist deputies and the individual who fled was located.  Further investigation led to numerous items being located, including a stolen handgun, a shotgun, approximately 9 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, a large amount of narcotic pills, approximately 3 lbs. of suspected Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and $300 US currency.  See pictures below.

Driver, later identified as Jacob Rice, age 23, of Henryville was taken into custody and charged with  Dealing in Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule I, II, III, or IV Controlled Substance, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Carrying a Handgun without a Permit, Dealing in Marijuana/Hash Oil/Hashish/or Salvia, Possession of Paraphernalia, Legend Drug Possession, Resisting Law Enforcement, Uses Vehicle or Draws or Uses Deadly Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property, Dealing Schedule IV Controlled Substance at Least One to Five Grams.

White was taken into custody and charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of I, II, III, or IV Controlled Substance, Visiting a Common Nuisance, Carrying a Handgun Without a Permit, Dealing Marijuana/Hash Oil/Hashish/or Salvia, Possession of Marijuana /Hash Oil/Hashish or Salvia, Possession of Paraphernalia, Resisting Law Enforcement Uses Vehicle or Draws or Uses a Deadly Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property, and Dealing Schedule IV Controlled Substance at Least One to Five Grams.

Both White and Rice were incarcerated at the Scott County Jail.
