Scott-On December 18, 2020, the Scott County Sheriff's Office hosted "Shop with the Sheriff". Due to COVID-19, this event was altered to keep everyone safe and healthy for the holiday season. Scott County School Districts #1 and #2 provided a "Wish List" to the Scott County Sheriff of approximately 50 students in need of clothes and toys. Scott County Sheriff Office deputies, reserves, and jail staff purchased those items from Walmart and wrapped the items for the children. Additionally, hams, canned goods, and other food items were donated so each child could have a Christmas meal. A drive thru collection of the items was set up at the jail and occurred on December 18, 2020 and Santa Clause made an appearance to help hand out the items to each family.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office would like to thank Jay C Foods, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Samtec, Austin Tri-Hawk, Scott County Sheriff's Reserves, and the Scottsburg Walmart for the donations. Also, a special thanks to Santa Clause, (Richard Raleigh) for helping.
Sheriff Goodin stated, "We truly live in the greatest county around for helping our friends, family and neighbors in time of assistance and need."
