Scott County Sheriff's Office Uses Less Lethal Force to Execute Arrest

Scott County-On December 21, 2020, Corporal Charlie Morgan responded to an address in rural Scott County for repeated 911 calls threatening Sheriff's Office Deputies with death and serious bodily harm.  Corporal Morgan had also received a threatening message to his work telephone from a number believed to belong to that address.

Deputies along with officers from the Austin City Police and Scottsburg City Police went to the residence that was making the threatening calls. Upon arrival, contact was made with the believed suspect and several attempts were made for her to comply to officers commands.

When deputies and officers were met with the threat of a firearm, Deputies were able to use less lethal force, (use of a bean bag gun), on the female, it was effective. She was taken into custody with no harm to the deputies, police officers, suspect and other people at the scene.

Patricia Nasby, 49, of Scottsburg, was transported to the Scott Memorial Hospital for treatment and later transported to the Scott County Jail for Resisting Law Enforcement, Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon and Placement of a 911 Call for Prohibited Purposes.

When Sheriff Goodin took over as Sheriff he implemented a plan for the use of bean bag guns instead of using lethal force in situations where it can be used. He purchased, trained and had officers certified to use them. In this particular case, the situation developed to where officers could use the bean bag gun instead of firearms.
