Complaint of Theft of Jewelry is Investigated by Scott County Sheriff's Deputies, resulting in the Arrest of Thief - Your Deputies Working Hard...Protecting and Serving Scott County Citizens!
Scott County- On or about 1-15-2026, Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Todd Hooker began an investigation in Scott County regarding the theft of jewelry from a local resident. The victim citizen reported multiple jewelery items missing from their home in rural Scott County, which was currently being remodeled. After Deputy Hooker took the initial complaint, Deputy Kyle West assumed investigative responsibility, ultimately resulting in the recovery of several pieces of the stolen jewelry and the arrest of the alleged thief, Gregory Purgerson, 55, of Austin, Indiana. The victim was able to positively identify the recovered jewelry, and Purgerson was remanded to the Scott County Jail, where he remains at this time. Sheriff Goodin commended Deputy West, Deputy Hooker, and all of his Deputies, for their professionalism, work ethic, and for conducting thorough investigations when seeking criminals who victimize our citizens. Sheriff Goodin has established lines of effort for Deputies, where taking the initial report is just the beginning...a thorough investigation follows, where criminals, and in this case stolen property, are sought and recovered. This approach has made Scott County, in our opinion, one of the safest counties in Indiana, where our citizens can live and raise their families without fear.
On a side note, Deputy West was able to recover nearly every piece of stolen jewelry reported missing by the victim... "another job well done", as lauded by Sheriff Goodin.
