Scott County Sheriff's Deputies Investigate a Shooting that Occurred Recently in Scott County
Scott County- On December 1st, a report of a shooting on State Road 256 near Whitsitt Road was made to Scott County Sheriff's Deputies. The initial report indicated an unknown suspect had shot another person, and afterward fled the scene in a dark in color sport utility vehicle (SUV). Scott County Sheriff's Detectives responded to the scene upon notification. Deputies were able to locate the SUV at an address on Coffee Pot Road in rural Scott County. After investigating further, with assistance from the Indiana State Police and the Austin City Police Department, deputies were able to identify a suspect in the shooting. Anthony J. Reed, 36, of Madison, Indiana was transported by detectives to the Scott County Sheriff's Office in Scottsburg for questioning, where Reed admitted to being the shooter after being involved in a dispute over drugs and whether the victim was a police officer, which Reed had accused the victim of being. The victim was transported to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment, where he remains. Reed was incarcerated at the Scott County Jail, arrested for multiple weapon-related charges. Additional charges will be sought through the Scott County Prosecutors Office once the case investigation report is presented for review.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Indiana State Police, the Austin City Police Department, and the Scott County Prosecutors Office, successfully bringing a quick end to a very dangerous situation.
The investigation is ongoing currently.
