08/29/2024

-CITIZEN ALERT/PHONE SCAMS ARE TARGETING RESIDENTS!

Criminals Calling Requesting Cash or for People to Deposit a Check...Promising BIG Payday to the Citizen...HANG UP the Phone!

Scott County- EVERYONE...please pay attention to this warning...there is no such thing as a "get rich quick opportunity".  If you receive a phone call from someone promising you a big payday for depositing a check into your account, hang up the phone! These are scams, targeting people who think they are making a quick buck and in return, they are possibly losing hundreds or thousands of dollars. We have received several calls this week from citizens who have been scammed or an attempt to scam them was made.  Please do not give these scammers any information about yourself or even give them the time of day...they are criminals, and they want to make you a victim of their scheme. Sheriff Goodin advised the following... "Folks, please be careful when speaking with anyone about your business over the phone and do not fall for these scams. Criminals are sly when trying to cheat good people. Error on the side of caution...hang up the phone! Always know we are here to help you in any way we can".

If you have information to provide that would assist the Scott County Sheriff's Office in making our community safer, please call 812-752-5550.  You can remain anonymous...together, we are making a difference.
