Scott County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Indiana State Excise Police, Execute Search Warrants at Three Locations in Scott County...Your Deputies Continue Working Hard to Keep Scott County Safe.
Scott County- On 5-20-2024 at approximately 1:00 PM, Scott County Sheriff's Deputies and Indiana State Excise Police Officers executed three (3) simultaneous search warrants at several locations within the City of Scottsburg. The locations searched were the following business locations.
- Country Boy Food Mart, 950 South Gardner Street, Scottsburg
- Scott's Food Mart, 265 South Gardner Street, Scottsburg
Additionally, a private residence was searched at 170 S. Washington Street, Scottsburg. This effort was a culmination of an investigation lasting approximately two (2) months, where undercover buys of Marijuana were made from the business locations by Scott County Sheriff's Detectives. When presented with probable cause generated from the investigation, Scott County Prosecutor Chris Owens and his staff assisted officers by producing the search warrants for execution. Additionally, community complaints have been received recently regarding the illegal sale of "vapes" and other substances to minors, resulting in the involvement of the Indiana State Excise Police with this investigation and subsequent search warrant(s).
This is an ongoing investigation...a follow-up News Release will be forthcoming once additional information is known.
NOTICE: This investigation is not an issue of whether marijuana should not be or should be legal. This is a matter of keeping our kids safe, as we have received complaints of kids buying illegal substances from these stores. For the businesses that are doing things the right way, THANK YOU. For those who are not, Sheriff Goodin is putting you on notice that Scott County Sheriff's Deputies will be visiting you.
Furthermore, Sheriff Goodin and Prosecutor Owens stressed the following... "whether a business or a private citizen...if you choose to sell illegal substances to kids in Scott County, they (the Office of the Sheriff and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney) will come down hard on you...period".
