Scott County- On 1-31-2024, Scott County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a housefire on Redbud Lane in northeastern Scott County.  Upon arrival, deputies were told there was a resident trapped inside the burning home, who was found perished in the fire. The deceased was later identified as Michael Webster of Scott County. The Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.

CORRECTION: The deceased person from the fire on Redbud Lane was misidentified.  Stephen G. Webster was the person killed in the fire, not Michael Webster. Please accept our apology for this error.

Part Two - On 1-31-2024, Scott County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of South Highway 3 where another fire had recently occurred.  After not hearing from the occupant of the residence for several days, a check of the property resulted in a call to the 911 Central Dispatch Center where a report was made requesting help. The occupant of the home, later identified as James Weston of Scott County, was found deceased inside the residence, with major burns to his body. This investigation is continuing with an autopsy scheduled. No foul play is suspected at this time.

Sheriff's Deputies were assisted at both scenes by the Scott County Coroner's Office and personnel from the Scott County EMS Service.
