-CITIZEN ALERT/PHONE SCAM-

Criminals Calling Residents-Claiming to be Drug Store Clerks Seeking Information from Citizens...Personal Identification is Requested...HANG UP the Phone!

Scott County-On 12-14-2023, the Scott County Sheriff's Office received several calls from concerned citizens who reported they were contacted by telephone by an unknown person, advising they were from a local pharmacy and that they needed their personal information to fill any current or future prescriptions. THIS IS A SCAM...DO NOT give anyone this type of information over the phone.  If you are concerned about your prescription account, hang up on the caller and call or visit your servicing pharmacy in person. NEVER give any personal identifying information (P.I.I.) over the phone to anyone that you do not initiate or that you cannot 100% positively identify as legitimate. Sheriff Goodin advised the following... "folks, please be careful when speaking with anyone about your business.  Today the scam is focused on a pharmacy...tomorrow, the criminal may state they are calling from your doctor's office or the IRS...they are sly when trying to scam good people. Error on the side of caution...and always know we are here to help you any way we can".

NOTE: The Scott County Sheriff's Office is blessed to have the support of all the citizens who call Scott County home as we relentlessly work at making Scott County the safest county in America.

If you have information to provide that would assist the Scott County Sheriff's Office in making our community safer, please call 812-752-5550.  You can remain anonymous...together, we are making a difference.
