Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Makes Solid Arrest Based on Good Police Work...after Alerted by Citizen Reporting Suspicious Activity.

(This is a Two (2) Part News Release)

Scott County-On July 27th at approximately 8:45 pm, Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Zach Brown was alerted to suspicious activity at a home on North US31 in Austin, Indiana.  Upon arrival at the residence, Deputy Brown immediately detected impairment of both occupants of the home, later identified as Lenora A. Barger, 68, of Austin, Indiana and Sally C. Stepp, 49, of New Albany, Indiana.  Deputy Brown noted Barger was wearing a monitoring device on her ankle and she appeared to be under the influence of what appeared to be some type of stimulant. After conferring with Scott County Community Corrections, Corrections Officers Melissa Smith and Rebecca Hollan responded to the residence and conducted a search of the residence as a condition of Barger's home detention agreement and her probation status.  The search revealed approximately 13.63 grams of methamphetamine, various controlled substances in pill form, illegal drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and plastic baggies commonly used in the distribution of controlled substances.  Both Barger and Stepp were arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail by Deputy Brown without incident.  Sheriff Goodin stated the following... "When the community is on patrol with our deputies, we are 23,850 strong in the fight against crime. Deputy Brown was not satisfied until he was able to hold accountable those breaking the law...we will not rest until all of our communities in Scott County are rid of criminal elements, PERIOD!"
