NOTE: This is a Two (2) part News Release
Scott County-On June 30th at approximately 3:10 am, Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Zach Brown received a dispatch regarding a possible structure fire in the City of Scottsburg. Deputy Brown, while on patrol in Scottsburg, was able to quickly respond to the location and after observing heavy smoke coming from the residence, Deputy Brown immediately began evacuating the home. Once all occupants were safely removed and accounted for, Deputy Brown was informed that the family dog was still in the residence, which prompted another entry into the burning home by the deputy. After an unsuccessful initial rescue attempt of the dog after the ceiling collapsed on Deputy Brown, he was able to convince the family pet that he was a friendly face. The rescue of the pooch was made by Deputy Brown through a broken window, successfully resulting in the final rescue from the burning structure. The humble Deputy Brown advised the following about this harrowing event... "I just happened to be in the right place at the right time...no thanks should come to me. The thanks should go to the responding fire departments, staffed by people who risk their lives every day in service to others". Sheriff Goodin concluded by adding the following... "How humble is that...I am personally proud of Deputy Brown and his heroic efforts...additionally, I am just as proud of all employees of the Scott County Sheriff's Office who bust their tales every day, in service to the people of Scott County".
Scott County Deputy Kacey Reschar, the Scottsburg City Police, and the Scottsburg, Vienna, and Austin Fire Departments responded to and successfully extinguished this fire along with Deputy Brown.
