Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Killed in 1934 Commemorated by the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Amick-Baker-Kellems FOP Lodge #156 with a Ceremony and a Memorial Highway Sign Marker

Scott County-On 6-5-2023 at approximately 1:00 pm, the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Amick-Baker-Kellems FOP Lodge #156, represented by Lodge President Marvin Richey, held a ceremony and a highway memorial sign dedication for fallen Scott County Sheriff's Deputy Harold Amick, killed in the line of duty on June 5th, 1934.  The ceremony was held at the Scott County Sheriff's Office, attended by local citizens, family members of Deputy Amick, and current deputies of the Sheriff's Office, all coming together to pay homage to the fallen deputy. The roadside dedication followed the ceremony, where Sheriff Goodin and deputies joined other community leaders and surviving family members of Deputy Amick for the highway memorial marker unveiling. Sheriff Goodin provided the following thoughts... "89 years to the day, the world stopped for Scott County Deputy Harold Amick and the Amick Family...the tragic news that every law enforcement family fears came true for them, that Harold had been shot and was mortally wounded. We, 89 years later, remember Deputy Amick's ultimate sacrifice and the suffering endured by the Amick Family for his loss...we remember them".

NOTE: Memorial markers were previously unveiled at the sites where Trooper William Kellems was killed in 1957, and Sergeant Jimmie Baker of the Scottsburg City Police was mortally wounded in 1964.
