Sheriff Dan McClain would like the public to join him in welcoming Jacklyn Colwell to the department. She was hired as a detective in August, 2016. She comes to us from the University of Louisville Police Department where she was employed for 10 years and held the rank of Sergeant. While employed with the UofL Police Department, she was responsible for investigating domestic violence and sexual assault related cases.
When hired, Detective Colwell was a certified law enforcement officer through the State of Kentucky. The Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board reviewed her qualifications and determined that she was a candidate for a basic training waiver. Detective Colwell had to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for Indiana Criminal Law, Indiana Traffic Law, and had to complete Indiana’s Firearms Qualification Course. Detective Colwell successfully completed those course exams recently and received her Indiana Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
Detective Colwell investigates domestic violence and sexual assault related cases as assigned. She works closely with the Scott County Prosecutors Office and the Department of Child Services. She is assigned cases by the Prosecutors Office from all jurisdictions inside of Scott County to see if any additional witnesses or suspects should be interviewed and to see if any additional charges need to be filed. Detective Colwell also educates domestic violence/sexual assault victims about their rights and the availability of resources to them.
