Deputies Rescue Man From Burning Home

December 4, 2013: the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to 5335 East Johnny Johnson Road concerning a report that a homeowner set his house on fire and that he wasn’t leaving the structure.

Upon Deputies arrival, they discovered that the home was on fire and that the homeowner had barricaded himself inside of the home.  Deputies Herald and Johnson acted quickly by forcefully entering the home and removing the man.

Arthur Backherms (07-26-1964), the homeowner, struggled with the Deputies and was not cooperative during the rescue.  He was transported to the Scott Memorial Hospital for treatment and again became unruly damaging a hospital bed.

Charges are expected to be filed for Arson and Criminal Mischief.
